First Snow of the Year

We got 4″ of snow yesterday and school stayed open the whole day and today was only a 2 hour delay, because the streets were sheets of ice this morning!  I can’t believe it. There is obviously a new dude making the decisions about school closures in our district. Last year one snow flake shut the whole school system down!!

Trapped!!

We have been having the worst weather here. It snowed Tuesday night and then had freezing rain on top of that, and since then, the weather hasn’t bothered to warm up much over freezing, so the top of the snow froze and you practically have to skate everywhere. The kids have been loving it for sledding, because you whizz around on the ice. Some unfortunate things happen like sleds down the drains in the street (I manged to get it out with the claw) and there have been a lot of dire threats about drains and never seeing a sled again after that incident.

School has been off since lunchtime Tuesday because of the big freeze,although the plough came on Wednesday night, so we have been able to get out and go shopping, but somehow school remains closed. Monday is a public holiday for Presidents Day, so by Tuesday I’m going to be insane and will probably run out and and shave my head just like Britney .

Snow

Finally it snowed. We had one inch of snow on Sunday afternoon and then of course, school was cancelled the next day because Little Johnny way far away in Western Loudoun County couldn’t get down his gravel driveway in his little red wagon. Honeslty it’s totally ridiculous. The plow didn’t even need to come, the street was practically clear by 9:30. We could have just had a delay. Nevertheless, the kids loved it and tried sledding and making snow cakes in very minimal snow. It’s our first snow of the winter!! We’ll probably get hammered this weekend and then I’ll really be cursing.
