Kathy, Paula, Damages!!
Kathy Griffin brought out the blarney on her visit to Ireland in last weeks season finale of My Life on the D-List. In the second half of the show she went to Ireland and scattered her father’s ashes in his favourite spot. It was quite touching, but would have been more touching if her mother had been there. Kathy did have the sense to say about her assistants/manager, “they are the best friends.. the best friends money can buy”, so it seems she’s totally aware of the situation, although I do think that Tom genuinely cares for her – he seems like a nice guy. Kathy also hosted some gay bingo, and she bombed – they were a bit of a surley crowd – and Kathy herself was surprised. I don’t know how much of the “bombing” is in the editing though. If everyone loved her all the time it would be a boring show.
The first half of the show was wierd, with Kathy trying to give away money on the streets of LA and people were refusing. She was trying to be like Oprah and get some press for her good works. Star Magazine sent along a reporter who was as dumb as a box of rocks, and kept referring to Kathy as “Kathy Lee”. Then she didn’t have a camera and went and got a disposable!!! What??? The woman works for Star, the tabloidiest tabloid and she didn’t know who Kathy was and that she wasn’t Kathy Lee Gifford. I couldn’t get over that.
I’m sad that D-List is over for the season – I hope Season 4 materialises.
Paula Abdul needs a slap. A reality slap. I’m sure she works hard, I’m sure she doesn’t get enough sleep, but just when I start to feel sorry for her she goes and acts like a total spoilt brat. Last week, Paula was going to renovate her home, so she rented another house, and had it decorated (why? If it’s temporary) She couldn’t be bothered to meet with the decorator, she let her hairdresser do it and then turned her nose up at the decor of the house – which by they way was lovely - and then didn’t end up renting the place after all. What a baby. She’s so lucky that she can renovate her house and not have to live there at the same time, like most people do. We also saw Paula getting a really painful injection of something to help her with the pain of her neck – and I do feel bad for her about that. She could still act like less of a brat. As I’ve said before – ditch all the assistants and cut back on some “lifestyle”!!
Which leads me to my plan for what I want to do when I grow up. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought and I think that when the kids are both safely in college I’m going to go to LA and become someone’s personal assistant. All these people are seriously crying out for help. Marc has a few people he knows from grad school who are actually employed and make a living in the Hollywood machine, so they could hook me up with some jobs. I used to be an Executive Assistant in my old life, and from what I’ve seen on TV you don’t need to be a genius to be a personal assistant. I’m sure I’d be good at it. And I’d get to go to some gifting suites. That’s what I’m really aiming for!!
Damages started on Tuesday, the new FX drama starring Glenn Close and Ted Danson. Fantastic. Marc thought it was a bit slow, but I liked it a lot and the twist at the end of the episode got me totally hooked. Apparently there will be one story arc every season, so the drama will be unfolding slowly, which I like. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow night holds.
This week in TV
I have a new favourite celebrity and her name is Victoria Beckham. I just loved her special on Monday night, Victoria Beckham: Coming to America. Posh has a fantastic sense of humour and knows how to make fun of herself. She made sure everyone knows that her whole paparazzi poker face is just that, an act for the photographers and gossip bloggers and magazines. I would have really liked to see her with her kids, but I think that she’s wise to keep them out of the media as much as she can – hopefully they’ll have a chance to be semi-normal. The only down side to the whole show was that she felt compelled to meet that troll, Perez Hilton, and give him and his shitful hair even more press than he gets now. I hate it when he gets on TV – he totally doesn’t deserve it. Why do celebs care what he says?
I thought she was just great and she seems strong enough that Tom will never be able to convert her to Scientology!!
You can watch the show on line here. It’s Major! – hahah.
It was like a switcheroo this week. Posh came here and Kathy Griffin went to England. The E! channel in Britain has bought the first two seasons of My Life on the D- List, so Kathy went over there to do some promotion and hopefully meet Ricky Gervais, which she managed to do. I thought the the Ricky Gervais scene could have been a bit longer, but I suppose the show is about Kathy. She seemed to be a hit over there – in fact I think that the Brits would probably get her jokes better than lots of Americans. The only downer to Kathy this week was that she too felt compelled to go and suck up to the dispicable Perez Hilton to get some press. I don’t get it.
Paula was exhausted again this week. Why doe she book herself up like that? She could probably ditch some of the assistants and cut back her schedule and live on the money she makes from American Idol. She needs to get rid of some her her team who just sit there and look at her. She did Letterman and threw a fit because her hair/makeup guy couldn’t get on a flight to NYC and her guy who tells her what to say wasn’t going to make it either. Has she heard of a phone? And it’s New York forgodssake – there must be a zillion great hairdressers and makup artists in NYC. Everyone has seen pictures of her and knows how she likes her hair. She is just creating all this drama for nothing. And sadly no one seems to have picked her up a prescription for Ambien yet. Thank God Perez Hilton wasn’t in this episode, that alone save it from being a total waste of time.
Traveler finished for the summer. They promised some answers but all we really got was a whole new set of questions. Sound familiar,Lost fans? I’ll still watch it when it comes back, probably half way through fall for a fill in
Kathy & Paula
This week’s Kathy Griffin was good. I loved her date with Ron Jeremy and how absolutely everyone recognised him walking down the street. Poor Kathy, no one recognised her. At least she got some press. Her trip to HSN was great as well, although she doesn’t really have the traditional personality of people who sell stuff on tv. I’d watch though, and I might even buy something from her, depending on what it was.
Hey Paula was amazing. Amazing in that Paula Abdul is obviously totally out of her tree, but at the same time totally savvy in business and has the mind of a steel trap when it comes to her jewellery collection. I couldnt’ believe how needy and daffy she was, and then when she got to QVC and was inspecting the jewellery she could remember in every detail what she’d asked for in the way of finishes and looks. Unbelievable.
And I can’t believe that someone as tired as Abdul, who is also a self proclaimed insomniac, hasn’t heard of Ambien. I took a whole ambien once and only just made if from the bathroom sink where I took it, to the bed in time to collapse for 11 hours. Half an ambien would probably help her to sleep. I’m still not buying the whole “overtired” explanation for her erratic behaviour, especially at the American Idol press interviews. It was like she was overdosed on pain killers.
I will say one thing for both Kathy G and Paula, they both work really, really hard. I wonder if the A-listers have to work that hard to stay on top?

That’s how many people watched the first episode of Season 6 of American Idol last night!! Wow. That is truly incredible. I don’t know how they stood it with so many commercials though. I watched my Tivo of What About Brian and then started the two hour American Idol at 8:50 and finished at 10:05!! (I love Tivo). I thought the auditions format was a a bit different this year than in years past. Lots more footage of people getting through to the Hollywood Part of Idol and only a few really woeful auditioners. It was fun to see Simon again, and Randy must have had vocabulary lessons over the summer, because he was actually speaking in full sentences last night. Paula seemed sober/straight, but didn’t really add much to the proceedings. I haven’t picked a winner yet – haha!!
