The Kitchen Is Finally Finished

After a couple of nights up painting and washing brushes out etc until 1:00am, I finally finished painting the kitchen last Thursday. I’m so happy that it’s done. It was a huge job.

Here are the before and after photos:

Kitchen saga is still going on…

Right as I’m typing this, the Man is here re-putting up the tiles – so, basically we waited a whole month for the tiles to be re-ordered and then the tiler scheduled. I can’t wait for this to be over.

I’ve finished painting the cabinets,  and now I’m working on the walls. I had a nice colour all picked out, Pottery Barn’s “Cornsilk” but somehow there was a mixing problem or a lighting problem or both, because when I started painting with it, it looked green instead of yellow, so I had a melt down and went back to the Home Depot in my painting clothes (which gives you a lot of credibility in the Paint department) and picked out about 50 paint chips (which then undermines the credibility because it’s clear your painting job has gone horribly wrong), and then we went in a completely different direction colour wise and I’m now repainting the ENTIRE room, which is huge. I want to get some more painting done and then I’ll put up some pictures.

The end is near – I’ll be able to get my kitchen out of my dining room and put everything back where it belongs. Sigh.

Kitchen continuted….

So it turns out that the tilers  put up the tiles in one section of the kitchen, ALL WRONG. That’s why we ran out of tiles. So they have to be ripped out and reinstalled. Sigh. Three new boxes of tiles where ordered all the way from Miami, and somehow they haven’t shown up yet. So I still have a section of the kitchen that I haven’t put anything back in the cabinets which is quite inconvenient.

I’m still painting the cabinets, it’s taking a really long time and right now the kitchen looks a bit like Willy Wonka’s everything halved office (Marc has absolutely no recollection of this scene in Willy Wonka, and that room is the best part of the movie for me!!).

Here’s some photos of the progress so far

Metamorphasis of a Kitchen

We are redoing our kitchen at the moment.  Out with the tile countertops and in with the granite!!  New sink, new faucett, and sort of new cabinets – I’m painting them!!

So far it’s been a big fat pain in the butt. Monday was the big day!!  They came, they ripped out the sink in 30 seconds and the countertops in 10 mins, they took longer to take off the tile backsplash, leaving huge holes in the wall board. Of course I freaked and made a phone call, and was reassured that it would all be fixed when the tiler came to do the new backsplash on Thursday (today!).

The plumber was promised first thing on Tuesday to hook up the faucett and sink.  11:00am comes and goes – no plumber. I make anothe phone call. “Oh something came up and he can’t come until tomorrow moring” . Yeah – right. The plumber is going to show up on 4th July.  Marc made some more calls. We had a plumber arrive about 5:00pm on Tuesday night. We have water!!

Today:  Tilers arrive right on time at 8:30am.  Happlily fixing wall board and tiling away.  Around 2:30 I got to see if there is any left over tile. Sorry, we have run out of tiles. We are FIVE bullnose tiles short. Kill me. Five freaking tiles short.

I make another phone call.  Tiles are special order blah blah blah, we’ll call you when they come in and we have an installation date.

It all sounds so simple and flawless when you are making the order and handing over the deposit. I can’t stand it, and I can’t wait for workmen to be out of the house. 3 days doesn’t sound like much, but when you have kids in the house and you can’t even get them a snack during the day – it becomes a huge drama.

I’m painting the cabinets myself. Yesterday I already finished one section and I’m really pleased with how they turned out.

I have put up photos of progress so far on the PHOTO page.
