Oprah’s Favourite Things
I thought Oprah’s Favourite Things was a bit of a non event this year. Last year she didn’t even have it, and I bet there were a lot of complaints. This is usually the best hour on daytime TV all year.
I thought it was sort of lame this year. She went to Macon GA, which is apparently the most Oprah watchingest city in the entire US, then she was yapping on about Macon and said “it’s my favourite things” and the audience was screaming so much at the thing she said before that half the audience didn’t even hear her. People went nuts, but not as nuts as in years past. Anyone remember the lady in the grey suit about 3 years ago that Oprah seemed scared of?? Now that was nuts.
Between Williams Sonoma (convinced Oprah owns shares in them) and herself, there wasn’t really that much that was great. The first item, the Samsung HD Digital camcorder was the best thing I thought, and the Josh Groban CD the worst. I would have been furious if I had finally achieved one of my life goals - which is being in Oprah’s Fav Things audience - and then have to spend 5 minutes listening to Josh Groban wailing away when I could have been getting more stuff.
Ugliest thing: Rachel Pally Swing Turtleneck and Sailor Pants. I can’t believe Oprah would be caught dead in them. Horrible.
Biggest Rip Off: Oprah was hawking her book club selection, Ken Follet’s Pillars of the Earth for $24.95. Hello Oprah, no one pays list price for books. You can get it at Amazon for $14.95 and probably Costco for $8.98.
Here’s the whole list if you are interested .
Sadly I didn’t feel as euphoric as I usually do after watching the Favourite Things Show. Maybe it was the measuring cups for $18.00 that put a dampner on things?

I like to watch TV. A lot. You can email me at cathie@cathiewatchestv.com
I have two kids, and I stay home with them. I hope that John Edwards is the next President of the United States. I live in Virginia and read the Washington Post everyday. I’m originally from Australia and became a US Citizen in 2005 and I’m so happy that I can now vote!!

Obviously you’re not a Josh Groban fan. His Noel CD would have been my fave gift. He sings beautifully and I don’t think he ‘wails’ as you put it. I guess for some people Christmas is just about materialistic things. Good luck to you. BTW, I’m an Aussie and proud of it!
I can’t say that I was in raptures over the Oprah show or what she was giving away. It was all a bit too materialistic for me. I was merely biding my time until I got to hear the incredible Josh Groban sing (NOT wail) songs from his beautiful Christmas CD. If anything speaks of the true meaning of the season, it is this CD. If I could have ANYTHING that was being given away on that show??? I’d take the huge hug that Josh was giving to Oprah!
